The demands on casting directors and actors are immense, with administrative tasks often slowing down productions and straining budgets. SAG-AFTRA, recognizing the need for innovation, partnered with STAUFFER to address one of the most pressing challenges: the cast clearance process.
SAG-AFTRA needed to streamline how casting directors handle the piles of administrative paperwork that fall on their desks daily. Normally, cast clearance, an internal application by casting directors to ensure actors have paid dues and are current with the union, is handled through inefficient communication and a clunky backend. SAG-AFTRA needed an efficient online platform to update the workflow, allowing remediation of actors and sending communication, and Taft-Hartley Allowed-to-Work documentation. The application needed to link with local SAG-AFTRA chapters around the country and be simple to use internally and for the casting director on the set of every SAG-AFTRA project.
STAUFFER created a cast clearance workflow system consisting of a self-service portal for casting directors and an admin portal for SAG-AFTRA locals to aid in the clearance process. These user interfaces were developed using PHP/Symfony, layered over a suite of Java-based APIs co-designed by STAUFFER and SAG-AFTRA and developed by SAG-AFTRA internal developers. The data is stored in a shared Oracle database that serves as a data repository for a SAG-AFTRA member management Oracle E-Business Suite application.
The software solutions delivered by STAUFFER have saved thousands of dollars on SAG-AFTRA production budgets by cutting untold hours of administrative red tape, work hours, and reducing production delays.
